Island Cruises is a joint venture between First Choice and Royal Caribbean offering good value budget cruising - summer in the Med and winter off the coast of Brazil. The style is informal and relaxed with smart casual as the normal dress code. Itineraries normally feature a port a day except for one sea day.
MS Island Escape
This MS Island Escape has a good range of tastefully decorated public rooms including the Lookout Lounge around the funnel with good views. It is popular for short cruises. Passengers on the Island Escape tend to be younger, families and all British. Cabins on the Island Escape are very small but well equipped with TV, telephone with adequate storage space. The bathrooms however, are tiny and utilitarian. The Island Suite has a separate living area, marble bathroom with Jacuzzi. This ship offers aerobics, yoga, treatment rooms, beauty salon, gym, mountain bikes for inland excursions and an aft marine platform for scuba diving and snorkelling. The pool has a magradome cover for rainy days. Dining is freestyle with no set tables or times. The main Island Restaurant offers waiter or buffet service while the more formal Oasis Restaurant is a la carte - some items cost extra. The Beachcomber provides indoor and outdoor seating on the sun deck. Entertainment is provided in the Bounty Lounge or Ocean Theatre hosting a variety of themed evenings. A panoramic look out bar doubles as a disco in the evening. Open deck space is good for sunbathing but can get crowded. The rating for children is Good. There is a well organised children's club with activities for all ages including a talent show, films and disco on each cruise.
MS Island Star
Island Star, currently operating as Horizon for Celebrity Cruises, will join the fleet in the 2005/6 winter season. The quite spacious handsome MS Island Star offers a good cruise experience and a selection of nicely decorated public rooms. Passengers on the Island Star tend to be younger, families and all British. Cabins are very well sized, quality wood fittings, and equipped with interactive TV systems for excursion bookings etc. Bathrooms are spacious with good sized showers. The ship has an aqua spa which is a generous size. It includes a gym, sauna room, aerobics, different types of massage, plenty of health treatments and an beauty salon. The ship has an adult and a childrens outdoor pool - both of a reasonable size. The Island Restaurant serves a range of international buffet dishes with no set tables or times. Full service dining is available in the Oasis or the Steak House. The Beachcomber Buffet on the lido deck provides alternative dining and an outdoor grill. Plenty of open deck space means less overcrowding and cushioned pads are provided for deck comfort. The entertainment is provided in the two level Ocean Theatre whilst the Bounty Club doubles as a cabaret lounge and nightclub later on.Dress code on the Island Star is casual and comfortable during the day. In the evening dress tends to be smart casual (shirt and trousers for gentlemen and casual elegance for ladies). On formal evenings you can wear a suit or even a dinner jacket for men and a cocktail dress for ladies. The rating for children is Good. There is a well organised children's club with activities for all ages including a talent show, films and disco on each cruise.
